The Sonoris Parallel Equalizer is a minimum phase parametric equalizer in VST, VST3, AU and AAX format for Windows and Mac. The plugin is suitable for mixing and especially mastering. It has fixed filter types on each band and band 2 to 6 are connected in parallel. The filters are build in a feedback/feedforward manner to provide cutting and boosting, like in analog graphic equalizers. Band 3 to 5 are constant-Q bells and 2 and 6 are shelves. Band 1 and 7 are low/high cuts and connected in series with the rest.

Parallel filter topology
The main feature is that this eq is a lot more subtle and needs more work to set up right because there is some interaction between the bands. In normal series connected eq’s the gains of two bands just add up but in a parallel eq it doesn’t.

The filters are parallel to each other as well as the unprocessed signal and this makes that if you have for example a low shelve boost and switch on a low freq bell boost too, it just doesn’t do much more. You can’t easily overdo things, but have to work harder to get it right. Also, the signal path is cleaner because the filters al work on the same input. The filters have correct gain up to Nyquist.

Processing modes
Besides working in stereo, the Parallel Equalizer can also process audio in M(id), S(ide), L or R mode.

Display
The plugin has a large graphical display that shows exactly what you get. The size of the plugin can be changed to your liking by dragging the lower right-hand corner.

Three independent frequency bands
The Sonoris Multiband Compressor has three independent frequency bands, each followed by a compressor based on the Sonoris Mastering Compressor. The three bands are created with carefully designed Linkwitz-Riley crossover filters to avoid phase cancellation problems while having a very natural, analog like quality. By design they mix back flat and are efficient in use. The crossover filter can also work in linear phase mode. In this mode there is no coloration and the wave shape is preserved as much as possible at the expense of a small delay.

Focuses on where it is needed
Besides working on a full mix, each filter band can also work on the Left, Right, Mid or Side channels or anything in between, with the variable link. This feature turns the SMBC into a powerful problem solver enabling you to exclusively attack a specific problem in a mix. For example, taming the bass in the Mid channel or a snare hit in the Left channel at 3KHz while keeping the integrity of the mix intact.

No odd harmonic distortion that can be found in most compressors, is present in the SMCP. To reduce residual artifacts, the SMCP features upsampling of the audio up to 8 times. Transparency can be further enhanced by selecting auto-release and feedback detection together with two soft knees.

Character
If a more aggressive behavior is needed, you can choose feedforward detection with a harder knee. It can have some character if pushed. If needed, the audio can be warmed up by even harmonics with the flip of a switch.

Focus
Besides working on a full mix, the SMCP can also work in split mode on the individual L, R, M or S channels or anything in between, with the variable link.

Flexibility
The sidechain for each channel has a selectable high-pass, band-pass and low-pass filter. This gives great flexibility and allows for creative enhancement of the audio.
